The
DVD Cast: All about . . . King Percy
If Ivan
embodies all that is mean and despicable in
the Kingdom, the affable, elderly Regent of
Pontefractium is the epitome of gentle wisdom
and quiet strength.
King Percy is kindly and approachable, always
glad to see his subjects, however lowly, though
at times his patience is sorely tried, and
he is not above losing his patience (and his
temper) with Ivan on a fairly regular basis.
He is somewhat baffled by the vagaries of
youth and the gradual
encroachment of new technology into his old-fashioned
realm, but
he is willing to learn and to try out new
ways of doing things.
Fortunately for
Ivan, King Percy's strong suit is forgiveness.
He
also has deep pockets and over the years
has been able to write
off some of the Slug's more spectacular
debts without plunging
the whole country into a recession.
He has a fondness for cricket, and the
strong sense of fair play
that often goes with it. He can be quite
ruthless with those who
would try to victimise the weak. Both his
children have turned
out to be strongly individualistic and creative,
and we gather that
he is as close as one is likely to get to
the ideal blend of Monarch
and Patriarch, with a dash of bumbling,
1950s, Prep School
Headmaster thrown in for good measure.
